About VeriFOIA
VeriFOIA is an independent, public-interest archive of declassified United States government documents — records released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and related declassification programs. Our goal is to make primary-source government material easier to find, read, and trust.
What makes us different: cryptographic provenance
Every document in the archive is fingerprinted with a SHA-256 cryptographic hash the moment it is stored. That fingerprint is recorded and immutable. Anyone can download a file and independently confirm, using our verification tool, that their copy is byte-for-byte identical to the sealed archive copy — with no need to trust us. The file's contents never leave your device during verification; only the hash is checked.
How documents are processed
- We obtain the original PDF from an official government source (e.g. the U.S. National Archives).
- The file is stored and sealed with its SHA-256 fingerprint.
- Its text is extracted; scanned pages are transcribed.
- A neutral, plain-language summary and a set of key entities (people, organizations, locations) are prepared to help readers and search engines understand the record.
Summaries are informational aids to the underlying primary source — see our Terms & Disclaimer. The authoritative content is always the original document itself.
Sources & copyright
The documents hosted here are works of the U.S. federal government and are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105). VeriFOIA is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any government agency. Where possible, each document links back to its original public source so you can consult the record at its origin.
Corrections & removals
