Richard Helms Reports 'Iron Curtain' Assassination Plot Claims to the Warren Commission, 1964

A man claiming to be a Polish chauffeur for the Soviet Embassy in Canberra told U.S. Naval Attache staff that 'Iron Curtain countries' had financed a $100,000 plot to assassinate President Kennedy, first in October 1962 and again the day after the assassination.

CIA Deputy Director Richard Helms formally reported the full teletype to Warren Commission counsel J. Lee Rankin, while noting Australian authorities considered the caller likely a crank whose specific details could not be verified.
